One EPM Stop for all your Needs

12 June 2006

Recently I simplified one thing on my Project Server EPM blog.

For easy access to my blog, I created a sub-domain. Now you can access my EPM stuff using URL http://msp.FaisalMasood.com

I’ll be adding more stuff on Project Server 2003 soon. Also keep clicking to look for Project Server 2007 stuff.

12 June 2006

The job of a Project Server Administrator (PSA) requires commitment, endurance & motivation. Good Intentions and Bad Installations

12 June 2006

I had good intentions of writing a killer post on managing administrative time in Project 2007.  However, something happened on the way to setting up my server.

While I’ve installed P2007 about 20 times already, I managed to get off the beaten path in the install instructions and provisioned PWA incorrectly as a result.  I screwed it up royally as the only way I could get PWA to appear was to specify some port number after the server name.  Everything I tried to fix it just made it worse.  Now, it won’t come up at all.  Grrrr.

Lesson learned:  Make sure you read the fine instructions that our configuration team has developed carefully.  It’s too easy to look away and forget what you are doing or where you were in the instructions.  Close email, no IM and turn off your cell.  Your chances of success will improve as a result.

I’m rebuilding it from scratch so that I can set up the scenarios.  One of the other things to do later is to create a post on some post install configuration options you might want to consider and why.

All good stuff and unfortunately it will have to wait.  I’m moving for the next two weeks so posting will be light.  I’ll write more as time allows.

SharePoint 2007 SDK on Workflow is available now

12 June 2006

As the proposals feature of Project Server 2007 uses the SharePoint workflow functionality, I thought this new SDK may be of interest.  This is especially true, if you have any plans to modify the proposals workflow to meet your organization’s needs.

The new SDK on SharePoint 2007 workflow is available here:  http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=38ca6b32-44be-4489-8526-f09c57cd13a5&displaylang=en

There is also a related developer introduction article on the SharePoint workflow functionality here:  http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/ms406057(office.12).aspx

Enjoy!

I’m with Ed on this one.

12 June 2006

I know I usually post on Project Server but the stuff being proposed by my government is just utterly infuriating.  Isn’t this the sort of thing we are supposed to be fighting against in other areas of the world?  Are we so afraid that we are willing to sacrifice our freedoms so easily?  I wish more people in Washington DC were asking these questions.   Ed Bott has a great post on this:  http://www.edbott.com/weblog/?p=1354

12 June 2006

Eric Landes took it upon himself to create a more robust Project template than that was previously available in Project 2003/2007.  Thank you, Eric for sharing your work!  You can find it here:  http://aspadvice.com/blogs/elandes/archive/2006/05/23/18028.aspx
